Guwahati: Gunfire rang out across Lhunjang village in Manipur early Monday. The shooting started at 5 am. Two armed groups clashed along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, just 12 km from the Chalwa Police Station. Bullets flew for 30 minutes. Police state that armed miscreants moved on the village, forcing security teams to fire back.
Lhunjang holds roughly 40 residents and hosts outposts for both the Manipur Rifles and displaced India Reserve Battalion personnel. No one got hurt in the fight. The groups retreated after the exchange. Before leaving, the attackers allegedly torched the local Lhunjang Primary School.
The building burned to the ground. Police have no suspects. Investigators are looking into the fire to identify who is responsible. The situation remains tense. Authorities noted, "An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident."
