Imphal: The Taphou Kuki Village Authority dismissed claims from the Naga People’s Organisation that its residents sparked recent violence. The group denies targeting neighbors in the Kangpokpi-Senapati border zone. They insist their community values peace and mutual respect. Decades of shared history bind them to their neighbors.

Tensions remain high following a string of fires and attacks. An arsonist destroyed several homes and belongings in the early hours of August 24. Later that morning, around 9:20 am, armed assailants used high-powered weapons to torch two more houses. The village reported livestock losses and structural damage. A third attempt occurred on August 26. Criminals tried to burn an RCC building across from the NPF office at Liangmei Taphou. Senapati Police and CRPF troops arrived in time to stop the fire.

The village authority called for a swift, fair investigation by local officials and civil society groups. They want the perpetrators identified and charged. The group also asked for stricter policing to keep intoxicated individuals and troublemakers from inciting more chaos. They warned that isolated acts should not ruin long-term communal stability. As the authority noted, "Few individuals’ misconduct must not become a reason for collective hostility between communities."
