Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled for a two-day visit to Tripura starting June 4. Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed that Shah will arrive in the state following his attendance at the North Eastern Council plenary session in Shillong, Meghalaya.
A primary objective of the visit is the June 5 foundation stone ceremony for the Taj Pushpabanta Palace hotel. The project follows a formal agreement between the Tripura government and the Tata Group-affiliated Indian Hotels Company Ltd. The historic structure, built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya, previously functioned as the Governor’s House and is set to be transformed into a luxury five-star heritage property.
Beyond the development project, the Home Minister plans to assess border security in the West Tripura and Sepahijala districts. Recent extreme weather and heavy rainfall have damaged sections of the barbed-wire fencing along the international boundary, prompting state officials to request urgent federal intervention.
Shah intends to evaluate these infrastructure gaps firsthand to determine necessary repairs and future security measures. His visit aligns with a broader federal initiative to strengthen border management across Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal, which collectively share a 4,096-km border with Bangladesh.
