Zunheboto Officials Coordinate Monsoon Disaster Preparedness Plans

Kohima: The District Disaster Management Authority of Zunheboto convened its first quarterly meeting on June 11 to assess regional preparedness for the approaching monsoon season. Held at the DC Conference Hall, the session saw various departments present their emergency response strategies and readiness plans.

Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj directed Fire and Emergency Services alongside the State Disaster Response Force to remain on high alert throughout the season. He requested that department heads limit leave requests to maintain full operational capacity during potential weather emergencies. The administration also prioritized the stability of public infrastructure, calling for reliable 24/7 power supplies to support essential government offices and services.

Health officials from the Veterinary department reported that while no African Swine Fever cases have been confirmed through testing, they are monitoring ongoing reports of pig deaths in local villages and colonies. They cautioned that the virus remains endemic in the area and urged residents to stay vigilant.

To ensure local stability, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of maintaining sufficient food and supply stocks within Zunheboto Town. He noted that the town acts as the primary distribution hub for the entire district and stressed the need for consistent public safety education. "Town council has to ensure that there is enough supply essentially in the town because Zunheboto town is the feeder to the entire District and awareness should be conducted at a regular basis," Raj stated.
