Kohima: Zunheboto officials kicked off Poshan Maah 2026 on Monday during a District Convergence Meeting. Stakeholders and various departments gathered to formalize the month-long nutrition drive. Mughalu Awomi, the district coordinator for Poshan Abhiyaan, chaired the session.
District Programme Officer R Imtinukshi spoke on the goals of the campaign. He said, "Nutrition should not be viewed merely as a government programme but as a shared community responsibility." He pushed for dietary diversity, fresh meals at Anganwadi centres, and better early childhood care. He specifically noted that the first 1,000 days of a child's life are vital for brain development.
Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj argued that healthy families build a healthy society. He wants food access for everyone, regardless of their background or income level. The DC demanded that these nutrition efforts continue long after the month-long campaign ends. He also called for lower child and maternal mortality rates through improved healthcare.
The district plans to use kitchen gardens and medicinal plants to boost diets. Departments including Social Welfare, Education, Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Forest and Climate Change, and AYUSH will work together. They will rely on Anganwadi Management Committees, village councils, Gaon Burahs, Self Help Groups, and Mothers' Associations to reach the grassroots.
Planned activities include intensified home visits, nutrition tracking, and regular growth monitoring. Officials also intend to promote indigenous foods and take the Poshan pledge. The DC insisted that nutritious food is a basic right for every citizen.
