Kohima: The office of the Child Development Project Officer in Kohima Urban hosted a community meeting at the Midland Community Hall on September 26. The event, part of the Poshan Maah 2026 celebration, focused on the theme My Anganwadi My Responsibility. Midland Council Chairman Menuokholie Kire urged local residents to utilize the available government schemes to ensure their families receive maximum benefits.
CDPO Reyivolu Kezo outlined key initiatives including Mission Saksham Anganwadi, Poshan 2.0, Mission Shakti, Palna, and the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. These programs provide essential support for children aged six months to six years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls aged 14 to 18. Kezo emphasized that nutrition acts as the primary driver for physical and intellectual growth. She noted, “Over 85% of brain development occurs by the age 6 years. This indicates the critical importance of appropriate nutrition, responsive care and stimulation in a child’s early years to promote sustained and healthy brain development and growth.”
The department utilizes home visits, community events, and sanitation days to drive health outcomes. These efforts include immunization, medical checkups, and referral services. Kezo also encouraged mothers to join the workforce, highlighting that creche day care centers provide a safe environment for their children. Staff at Anganwadi centers deliver these services directly to the public.
The District Hub for Empowerment of Women in Kohima distributed eggs to adolescent girls as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. Senior Supervisor Anino Peseyie detailed early childhood stimulation and care programs, while District Coordinator Sohile Tep addressed specific nutritional needs. The day concluded with Aadhaar enrollment, PMMVY spot registration, and a display of local produce.
