Kohima: Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Zhaleo Rio directed local departments to improve the delivery of government schemes during the Chümoukedima District Planning and Development Board meeting held on June 10. He emphasized that all officials must prioritize reaching targeted beneficiaries to ensure the effectiveness of public policies.
Addressing the district’s waste management, Rio instructed the Chümoukedima Town Council to maintain regular garbage collection. He advocated for public awareness campaigns regarding waste segregation and urged officials to install dustbins in high traffic areas. As part of ongoing beautification efforts, he encouraged local stakeholders to plant ornamental trees near public facilities and sports grounds.
Rio also addressed public safety by commending police efforts to enforce speed limits on the National Highway. He warned that strict enforcement is necessary to lower accident rates, stating, "no one is above the law and urged authorities to act against violators."
Deputy Commissioner Polan John briefed the board on the current electoral roll revision and the upcoming census. He noted that revised waste management rules now require waste to be sorted into four specific categories. The board also reviewed administrative matters, including the registration of the Yimkhiung Baptist Borü Society, and scheduled a presentation by the Nagaland Pollution Control Board for the next session.
