Kohima: Longleng officials want residents to save water. The Town Council hosted a workshop on August 3 at the Deputy Commissioner conference hall. The event focused on the national Jal Sanchay Jal Bhagidari campaign. Locals depend on erratic rain and drying springs. The area faces significant water stress.
Junior Engineer L Baukham Phom from the Public Health Engineering Department laid out the hard facts. Hilltop settlements suffer most. Climate change and lack of storage make winters brutal. Phom told the crowd, "These challenges necessitate collective efforts and sustainable practices." He wants citizens to install rooftop harvesting systems and keep local drains clear.
The plan for better water security includes planting trees and protecting local bodies. Residents should build check dams and manage spring-sheds to recharge groundwater. Additional Deputy Commissioner Thungchanbemo Tungoe led the session. EAC Sardar Er Vinho Swu closed the meeting with a vote of thanks.
