Young Mizo Association Pushes for Electoral Roll Scrutiny

Aizawl: The Young Mizo Association is demanding a cleaner voter list. The group is pressing election officials to root out ineligible individuals during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Mizoram. Leaders met with Mamit district authorities to hammer out the details. They want to ensure the final count reflects only genuine citizens.

Mamit District Election Officer Lalnunfela Chawngthu led the session. An 11-member delegation from the Central Young Mizo Association attended alongside Electoral Registration Officers from three assembly constituencies. Malsawmliana, the General Secretary of the group, pushed for total cooperation during verification. He said, "The revision must ensure only legitimate citizens remain on the electoral rolls."

The group remains worried about shifting demographics. CYMA Treasurer H. Duhkima noted that the indigenous Mizo population is small. He stressed that the state must guard against both the exclusion of rightful voters and the entry of outsiders. Officials confirmed they will hold hearings to protect the interests of local communities. N. Lalzarzova, the Dampa Assembly constituency officer, promised that only qualified people will make the final cut.

The state has a massive task ahead. Officials published draft rolls on July 4, counting 8,28,906 electors. That total includes 4,29,881 women. Authorities are now verifying every claim to finalize the records.
