Yakor Village Reaffirms Status as Alcohol and Drug-Free Zone

Kohima: Yakor village held a community-driven event on June 11 to confirm its status as an alcohol and drug-free zone. The initiative upholds a formal resolution passed by the Yakor Village Council in January 2026. The Citizen Union of Yakor organized the gathering in partnership with the local Village Council, the Mothers Union, the Students Union, and the Church.

Apong Janger, an advisor for the Citizen Union, praised the community for its solidarity during the keynote address. He encouraged residents to remain committed to the decision and serve as a positive example for others. He stated, "I appeal to all villages under Yimkhiungland to adopt the resolution to make their homeland free from drugs, alcohol and tobaccos."

This village-level commitment aligns with a broader directive issued by the Yimkhiung Youth Organisation on October 31, 2025. That resolution declared all of Yimkhiungland a drugs-free zone and requested that all local councils implement the policy. The event concluded with attendees uniting behind the slogan, No to Drugs and Alcohol.
