Kohima: The Wokha Town Council officially lifted its ban on pork sales this week. The decision followed a formal review of local animal disease trends and talks with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. Officials hope the move will stabilize the meat supply after the recent prohibition.
Strict rules remain in place for commerce. Live pigs can only enter the town from the Amguri site in Assam by way of the Mokokchung route. Every shipment requires a health certificate from a registered vet confirming the animals are healthy and come from areas free of African Swine Fever. Chairperson W. Myingthungo Kikon ordered that "import, export and transportation of live pigs will be permitted only from Amguri (Assam) site to Wokha Town via Mokokchung route."
Butchers and traders face high stakes. They must report any sickness or deaths in their stock to the authorities without delay. Failure to follow these mandates invites legal action. Keep it clean.
