Wokha Town Council Ends Pork Sale Ban

Kohima: Wokha Town Council officially ended its temporary ban on pork sales. The move follows a review of local animal disease levels conducted alongside the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. The new order replaces a previous directive from May 2, 2026.

New rules govern how live pigs move into the area. Traders must haul animals exclusively from Amguri, Assam, through the Mokokchung route. Every shipment requires a valid health certificate from a registered veterinary officer. This document must confirm the livestock is clinically healthy and originated from an area free of African Swine Fever.

WTC Chairperson W Myingthungo Kikon expects full cooperation from butchers, traders, and transporters. He ordered these stakeholders to report any sick animals or deaths to authorities immediately. The council warned of consequences for those who ignore the new protocols. As the order states, "Failure to comply, appropriate action will be initiated as per the relevant provision of Law."
