Wokha Officials Review Infrastructure Needs at Local Educational Institutions

Kohima: Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan led a delegation of District Planning and Development Board officials on a visit to two key educational institutions in Wokha on June 10. The group, which included MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Deputy Commissioner K Mhathung Tsanglao, inspected the District Institute of Education and Training and Bailey Baptist College to evaluate local academic needs.

At the District Institute of Education and Training, Principal Mhonbeni Kikon outlined the facility's mission to provide pre-service and in-service teacher training. Kikon identified poor road connectivity and a lack of infrastructure as primary obstacles to the institute's operations. Yanthan encouraged staff to track trainee placements and assured the administration that the government would provide support where necessary.

The delegation then visited Bailey Baptist College, which was founded in 1996. College leadership highlighted several struggles, including low student enrollment, inadequate sports facilities, and difficult road access. Yanthan expressed his commitment to the institution's future, pledging to fund a new library and a table tennis facility for the students.

To encourage academic pursuit, MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe offered direct support to the student body. He announced that he would "sponsor the education of six students during the current academic year" to help alleviate financial burdens for local families. Both officials reaffirmed their dedication to improving higher education standards within the district.
