West Bengal to Build Vande Mataram Museum

Shillong: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari revealed plans for a Vande Mataram Museum on Friday. He spoke at the ancestral home of Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in North Kolkata to mark the writer's 189th birthday. The state budget for the 2026-27 financial year already includes funding for the project, which was presented by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta on June 22.

Adhikari vowed to shift the focus of the state toward nationalist figures and away from previous administrations. He claimed the project will meet high standards. "The proposed museum will be of national standards," Adhikari said. The Chief Minister used the event to slam his political opponents. He accused the former Trinamool Congress government of hindering his attempts to visit the historic site last year by digging up access roads.
