Shillong: West Bengal Governor RN Ravi visited Shillong on Saturday to mark West Bengal Foundation Day, where he spoke on the enduring influence of Indian ideals regarding social justice and human dignity. The event at Lok Bhavan showcased the state's cultural history and development through traditional folk music and dance performances, including a special musical set by singer Amit Paul.
During his address, Governor Ravi emphasized the legacy of spiritual leaders and national figures who united the country. He noted that the works of Rabindranath Tagore remain a global symbol of humanism and universal values. The Governor also reflected on the hardships surrounding the Partition, urging citizens to acknowledge the sacrifices made during that era.
The Governor specifically recognized historical efforts to maintain the state's status within the nation. "On this day, we pay our humble gratitude to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee and his revolutionary colleagues, whose sacrifices and efforts made it possible to keep West Bengal as an integral part of Bharat," he stated.
Additional Chief Secretary to the Meghalaya Governor, HC Chaudhary, attended the event and offered greetings on behalf of Governor CH Vijayashankar. He remarked on the importance of such celebrations in strengthening national unity while preserving individual state identities. The program concluded by honoring the various professional communities in West Bengal that contribute to the ongoing progress of India.
