Shillong: The Voice of the People Party State Youth Wing retracted a formal accusation regarding a teacher recruitment scam against former cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh. VPP youth president Marbud Dkhar confirmed the reversal on Friday. The move follows a decision by the High Court of Meghalaya to quash the case against her. "We have decided to withdraw that particular statement for now because the Meghalaya High Court has already quashed the case against her," Dkhar said.
Dkhar insists Lyngdoh failed the public. He argues she should have resigned when the controversy first broke during her tenure as Education Minister. The party leader views her decision to stay in office as a clear sign of poor accountability. He also took aim at her recent comments concerning the VPP-led Executive Committee within the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
Lyngdoh needs to look in the mirror. Dkhar claims lapses in the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme under her leadership left the state with lingering education troubles. He further cited her past removal from the Agriculture Department as evidence of her spotty record. Politicians must own their choices. Dkhar told Lyngdoh to stop pointing fingers at the Council and focus on her own past performance.
