Shillong: The Voice of the People Party has dismissed recent speculation regarding its members leaving the party ahead of the 2025 Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council elections. Party president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit stated that reports of four members planning to exit are false and intended only to create instability within the Executive Committee.
Basaiawmoit emphasized that such rumors are common tactics used by political opponents to stir confusion within the party ranks. He noted that the party has faced similar groundless claims since first forming the Executive Committee. "MDC sakbrini party-ko watna miksonggipani bidingo jangbingbangani ian skanggipa chang ong·ja maina chingni KHADC-o Executive Committee-ko rikchengaonin iandake jangbingbanganirangko knasona man·enga," Basaiawmoit said.
Public speculation intensified following the resignation of Mawkyrwat MDC Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin, who served as an Executive Member for Council Assets. Kharjahrin submitted his resignation on June 20, citing an increased workload within his constituency. His departure coincided with the final day of the council summer session, leading some observers to question the internal unity of the VPP. Basaiawmoit maintained that the party remains focused on securing 17 of the 29 available seats in the upcoming election to retain control of the Executive Committee.
