VPP Demands Overhaul of Meghalaya Transport Corporation Service Rules

Shillong: The Voice of the People Party wants the Meghalaya Transport Corporation to scrap its 2025 service rules. The party claims these policies unfairly target low-level staff. VPP vice president Dr. K.H. Shen submitted a formal complaint to the MTC managing director. He argued that the current rules create an uneven playing field for the workforce.

Subordinate staff like drivers, mechanics, and cleaners face a hard ceiling. They struggle to reach permanent status despite years of hard labor. Meanwhile, ministerial staff operate under different, more flexible guidelines. This divide breeds insecurity among the rank and file. The party contends that all employees deserve equal treatment and clear paths to advancement.

The VPP also took issue with potential plans to fill ministerial vacancies through internal departmental exams. They fear this system allows contractual workers to bypass the standard, open recruitment process. The party stated that "regular ministerial vacancies should be filled through transparent, open and competitive recruitment." Anything less threatens public trust in the hiring system.

The party urged the MTC to prioritize merit and fairness. They want the corporation to consult with all stakeholders before locking in rules that affect livelihoods. The MTC must now decide whether to amend the 2025 policy or face further pushback from the opposition.
