Vice President CP Radhakrishnan Visits Manipur War Sites

Imphal: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan touched down in Manipur on Tuesday, September 8. He faces a busy one-day schedule. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh greeted him at Imphal Airport. A guard of honour stood ready for his arrival.

Radhakrishnan plans to travel by road to Moirang in the Bishnupur district. He will tour the Indian National Army Museum and War Memorial. The site honors the legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his fighters. It displays original letters, photographs, and badges of rank. Moirang is a historic landmark: "the Indian National Army flag was first unfurled there on April 14, 1944."

The Vice President heads back to Imphal after his Moirang trip. He will visit Sainik School with the Governor and Chief Minister. Radhakrishnan flew in from Assam. He departs at 4.30 pm for Donyi Polo Airport in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.

The stop was part of a larger four-day tour of the Northeast, including previous stops in Assam and Meghalaya. Radhakrishnan landed at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport at 10.30 am, where an Indian Reserve Battalion contingent provided the guard of honour.

At the Moirang site, the Vice President offered floral tributes to a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the INA War Memorial Stupa. He was joined there by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken, and MLA Th. Shanti.

During his visit to Sainik School Imphal in Pangei, Radhakrishnan laid a wreath at the school's war memorial, grabbed lunch with the cadets, and gave a speech on leadership, discipline, and national identity. He departed the state aboard a special Indian Air Force helicopter.
