Manipur Minister Pushes for Global Literacy Improvements

Imphal: Manipur minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh marked International Literacy Day 2026 with a call for urgent educational reform. He argues that basic reading and writing skills act as the bedrock for sustainable development. Singh shared his message on the social media platform X.

He pointed to the official 2026 theme, Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity. This designation reminds the public that literacy is a fundamental human right. Officials observe this day every September 8 to showcase how education stabilizes communities and boosts the economy.

The minister wants more effort placed on quality schooling. He hopes to give everyone the tools needed for a better life. "Let us reaffirm our commitment to expanding access to quality education and empowering every individual to build a dignified and prosperous future," Singh said. This year the focus remains on using literacy to fix pressing social, economic, and environmental problems.
