USTM Launches Exclusive Scholarship Program for Nagaland Students

Kohima: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has launched a new financial aid package tailored for students in Nagaland. Announced during a press conference in Dimapur, the initiative offers support to 50 individuals based on academic performance and economic need.

Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque detailed the scholarship structure, which includes 10 full free-ships for top-performing students and rank holders. Additionally, 15 students will receive a 50 percent tuition fee waiver, while 25 others will be granted a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000 for living and educational expenses. To qualify, applicants must have achieved at least 80 percent marks in their previous qualifying examinations and meet all institutional admission requirements.

Regarding the motivation behind the initiative, Hoque stated, “We want to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent talented students from accessing higher education.” While the university noted that hostel fees are excluded from the free-ship program, additional support may be provided to high-ranking students facing extreme financial hardship.

Beyond student aid, the university continues its expansion in the region. Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma highlighted that the institution maintains a strong focus on employability, noting that NET qualifiers are eligible for a full tuition fee refund. The university also announced the Institutional Excellence Award 2026 and a ceremony to honor NBSE HSSLC top achievers, both scheduled for Saturday at the Dimapur Town Hall.
