US Ambassador Tours Loktak Lake After Manipur Government Meetings

Imphal: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor toured Loktak Lake in the Bishnupur district today. He took a boat ride across the water. This visit followed a day of high-level meetings in Imphal.

Gor met with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to discuss strengthening US-India engagement. The parties focused on how to expand economic ties between the two nations. Chief Minister Khemchand invited the envoy to the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival. He stated, "We exchanged ideas on how the US and India could work together to expand economic ties." Khemchand remains confident that relations between the United States and Manipur will grow in the coming years.

US Consul General in Kolkata Kathy Giles-Diaz accompanied Gor throughout the trip. The envoy also sat down with Governor Bhalla to emphasize the importance of continued cooperation. This trip to Manipur follows Gor’s recent stop in Darjeeling. During that visit, he met with former Foreign Secretary and former Indian Ambassador to the US Harsh Vardhan Shringla, while holding sessions with local students, youth, and residents.
