Agartala: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal recently visited Agartala to celebrate the achievements of the central government over the past 12 years. During his visit, he emphasized that the Northeast has transitioned from the margins to the mainstream, now serving as a primary driver of India's economic expansion and a vital gateway to Southeast Asia.

Sonowal participated in several events, including the Pragati Path Yatra and a review of regional infrastructure projects. He credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fostering improvements in connectivity, governance, and public infrastructure. Reflecting on this progress, he stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s leadership has transformed India from a nation of hesitation into a nation of confidence. The last 12 years have brought development, welfare and opportunity to every corner of the country, including the Northeast.”

The minister highlighted Tripura as a key example of this development. He noted that advancements in digital, road, and railway networks have allowed local agricultural products, such as the state's famous Queen pineapple, to reach international markets. This integration has provided significant economic benefits to local farmers and rural communities.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the government is prioritizing the empowerment of women and youth through skill development, entrepreneurship support, and various welfare schemes. Sonowal expressed confidence in these groups, noting that they are central to the nation's ongoing social and economic transformation. He concluded that the combination of peace accords, strategic investments, and a people-centric approach has successfully unlocked the region's long-standing potential.
