Shillong: A Union minister is scheduled to visit the PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya in Upper Shillong on June 21, the same day thousands of students are set to appear for the NEET undergraduate re-examination. The East Khasi Hills district administration confirmed the visit, noting that stringent security protocols will result in regulated traffic movement along key routes leading to the examination centre.
Critics are voicing frustration over the scheduling, arguing that the disruption could force students into gridlock and jeopardize their performance during a critical entrance test. The administration has issued an advisory asking candidates to reach the centre well in advance and plan their travel accordingly. Despite calls for rescheduling, the visit remains set to occur amid the high-stakes exam environment.
This conflict persists even as state officials work to ensure a smooth testing process. A high-level review meeting chaired by Health Secretary B. Mawlong recently emphasized the need for a “peaceful, secure and hassle-free” environment for the 4,164 students appearing for the re-test across Meghalaya. With 14 designated centres across the state, including 10 in Shillong, concerns remain regarding how the administration can balance rigid VVIP security measures with the logistical needs of thousands of test-takers.
