Gangtok: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reaffirmed the central government's commitment to the development of Sikkim during his visit for the state's 51st Statehood Day celebrations. Speaking on May 16, which marks the anniversary of the state's 1975 merger with the Indian Union, Scindia highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dedication to fostering economic growth and progress in the Himalayan region.
During his three-day visit, Scindia, who oversees the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the Communications portfolio, unveiled a comprehensive Rs 360-crore initiative. This project is designed to transition Sikkim from a certified organic producer into a globally integrated premium organic economy. By focusing on world-class infrastructure, branding, and export-market connectivity, the mission aims to support over 66,000 farming families and strengthen local Farmer Producer Organisations through improved logistics and cold-chain networks.
