Kohima: A landslide crushed a home in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district on July 29, killing two brothers. The debris struck a rented house near the Sangtam Baptist Church Pastor’s Residence in Upper Penli Ward. Both victims died when the structure collapsed.
The deceased were Muwalong Sangtam, 19, and his 16-year-old brother, Thsidiba Sangtam. Both boys hailed from Alisopur village and attended Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, where Muwalong was a Class XII student and Thsidiba was in Class XI. Their mother was also inside the house during the slide. She survived the collapse but suffered injuries and is currently receiving hospital treatment.
The Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Mokokchung confirmed the details of the tragedy. Following a prayer service at the Sangtam Baptist Church compound, the family planned to transport the bodies to Alisopur for final rites. The group issued a statement noting they "extended its condolences to the bereaved family, prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased, and wished the injured mother a speedy recovery."
