Shillong: Tura officials gathered Friday at the Rongram Horti Hub to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The District Hub for Empowerment of Women organized the event to push for a cleaner society. They want people to stop the spread of illegal substances.
The program drew experts from the Medical Department, the Police Department, and the District Legal Services Authority. These speakers explained the physical damage caused by drugs. They also told the crowd about free legal aid for those struggling with addiction. District Social Welfare Officer M. O. T. Sangma opened the meeting by highlighting the need for local cooperation.
Interns from Don Bosco College and Tura Government College performed a skit to show how substance abuse tears families apart. The Rongram Block Development Officer attended as the chief guest. Organizers framed the event as a call to action for the entire community. One official stated, "The observance aimed to strengthen public awareness, encourage collective responsibility, and promote a united effort among government agencies, educational institutions, and citizens in building a healthier and drug-free society."
