Agartala: Tripura is moving forward with plans to establish the state's first government Ayurvedic medical college. The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine officially approved the state's application on June 18, clearing the way for the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital to open in the Tepania area of Udaipur.
The institution will offer 60 Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery seats, with the inaugural academic session scheduled to begin in 2026-27. The project follows a formal request submitted on December 30, 2025, by Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao, the Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, under the NCISM Act 2020.
Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed the news on social media, expressing his support for the project. "I am delighted to share that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026-27," he wrote.
Saha credited the progress to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the college will bolster traditional medicine and expand healthcare education options for local students. The facility aims to increase access to Ayurvedic medical services while providing new academic opportunities within the state.
