Shillong: Tripura royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma claims political forces in Delhi are actively sabotaging efforts to consolidate tribal communities across the Northeast. He argues these figures want to keep indigenous groups divided. Pradyot remains adamant that a unified political umbrella for tribes remains the ultimate goal.
He envisions a coalition featuring Bodos, Kacharis, Tripuris, Karbis, Khasis, and Nagas. This group would fight collectively for political rights. "There are people in Delhi who do not want all the tribals of the Northeast to come under one umbrella. They create roadblocks. But we are trying to do that," he stated. He claims that when the One North East platform launched in November 2025, opposing forces summoned specific leaders to the capital to break the movement. "They called some of the leaders here to disrupt our way," he added.
The One North East platform includes Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Pradyot, former Nagaland minister Mmhonlümo Kikon, and Assam leader Daniel Langthasa. These figures seek to amplify regional aspirations that often vanish when states act alone. Yet, the region faces intense fragmentation. Diverse cultures and varied political loyalties complicate the mission. Current members belong to parties like the NPP and Tipra Motha, which often align with the BJP. This creates friction regarding the group's true independence from national power structures.
