Agartala: The Tripura Higher Education Department officially opened online admissions for undergraduate programs across 29 government degree colleges for the 2026-27 academic session. Students must submit their applications through the SAMARTH portal by midnight on June 7. Officials confirmed that offline applications will not be accepted as part of the state's move to ensure a transparent, merit-based selection process.
Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma announced that the first merit list will be published on June 19. Selected candidates can complete their admissions on June 22 and 23. The department has scheduled additional rounds to fill any remaining vacancies, with the final phase of enrollment occurring between July 4 and July 6.
This year's enrollment cycle includes the debut of the Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College in the Sepahijala district. The state has also expanded its academic offerings in line with the National Education Policy 2020. This includes a new B.Sc. program in Computer Science at IASE Kunjaban and a capacity increase for the BA English major at the same institute.
With these updates, the total intake capacity across government degree colleges has risen to 32,159 seats. This growth accommodates the roughly 28,967 students expected to graduate from higher secondary programs this year. Additionally, the government is currently working to operationalize the new Tripura Government Technical University and Tripura Government Women’s University following recent administrative upgrades.
