Agartala: The Tripura government has officially transitioned to a five-day work week for all state employees. Under the new policy, all Saturdays are now designated as public holidays, marking a significant departure from the previous schedule that only provided time off on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

To maintain current service levels, the General Administration Department has adjusted daily operating hours. Government offices will now function from 9 am to 5 pm, adding an hour to the existing schedule to compensate for the lost Saturday hours. These changes took effect immediately across all state departments.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated that the reform aims to foster a more balanced work environment. He explained that the shift reflects modern workplace practices already seen in various central government institutions. According to the Chief Minister, the initiative is in line with modern workplace practices adopted by several government institutions across the country, including departments under the Central Government.

Officials anticipate that the new arrangement will improve overall productivity and employee motivation. By providing a consistent two-day weekend, the government expects to help staff better manage personal and family responsibilities, which may ultimately improve job performance and reduce workplace stress.
