Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission has officially requested a report from the state Director General of Police following allegations of misconduct by CRPF personnel. The investigation stems from a complaint filed by the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress regarding a protest march held on June 15 in Agartala. Activists claim that security forces used excessive force when demonstrators reached barricades at RMS Chowmuhani, leading to several injuries.

A delegation led by TPYC president Neel Kamal Saha presented the commission with photographic evidence and video footage of the incident. The complaint specifically alleges that an officer named Ram Kumar directed the force against participants, including women, without orders from senior police officials on the scene. Saha stated that the conduct of the personnel during the protest was unacceptable and called for an impartial investigation into the incident.

Justice Arindam Lodh, head of the commission, opted to take formal cognisance of the matter after reviewing the initial materials. The commission has ordered its own investigative wing to preserve all submitted video evidence as the inquiry proceeds. The Director General of Police is now tasked with filing a comprehensive report, which the commission will review when the case returns for a hearing on July 14.
