Agartala: The Tripura High Court ordered the Teacher’s Recruitment Board, Tripura, to hand over TET-II certificates to eight successful candidates. Justice Biswajit Palit issued the ruling on July 23. The board previously rejected the group during document verification for the 2024 Tripura Teacher Eligibility Test. They cited questions regarding the validity of undergraduate degrees earned through Tripura University.
The candidates paused their university studies to finish a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education. They returned to finish their graduation within the school's permitted timeline. The TRBT argued the candidates lacked an official exit certificate or prior approval for the diploma program. Justice Palit disagreed. The court noted that university regulations allow for study gaps as long as the degree ends within the maximum allowed duration.
The court found no rules blocking enrollment in other courses during that break. Justice Palit stated, "Because the petitioners were not in-service candidates, they were under no obligation to seek prior permission from the university." The ruling also dismissed arguments about simultaneous enrollment, clarifying that the situation did not breach UGC guidelines for dual degree programs.
The High Court set aside the board’s rejection order. It now mandates that the TRBT issue the TET-II Paper-II certificates within three months, pending a final check of the candidates' documents.
