Agartala: The Tripura government has provided employment to 18 relatives of individuals killed in political violence. Power and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced the update on Friday, noting that the state remains committed to supporting affected families regardless of their political ties.

The initiative stems from a 2018 decision to offer government jobs to family members of victims. This policy was formalized through the Scheme for Providing Employment to Members of the Family of Persons Killed in Political Violence, which the cabinet later expanded by removing a previous March 2018 cut-off date. Officials have processed 38 applications so far, with 11 additional candidates recommended for hire and four currently under review.

To ensure transparency, a scrutiny committee led by the minister evaluates police records and official documentation to confirm the nature of each death. While five applications were rejected for lack of evidence, officials acknowledge that verifying older cases from the previous Left Front government era is difficult due to missing documentation. Nath stated, "Many incidents that occurred during the earlier period are difficult to verify because supporting documents are not available."

Addressing the selection process, the minister emphasized that the administration avoids partisan bias when assessing claims. He noted that the government treats victims from all affiliations, including the BJP, CPI(M), and Congress, with the same level of sensitivity to ensure support reaches those who have suffered.
