Kohima: Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Elections H. Tovihoto Ayemi has dismissed claims that the BJP is responsible for the recent turmoil within the Dimapur Municipal Council. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Ayemi attributed the instability entirely to internal divisions among NPF councillors. He noted that while the BJP remains an alliance partner in the ruling PDA and deserves representation, logistical challenges have hindered their full accommodation in the municipal setup.

Ayemi expressed optimism that the situation in Dimapur is largely resolved thanks to the efforts of the involved political parties and the state government. Despite this progress, he warned that frequent infighting within Urban Local Bodies is an unfortunate trend that threatens effective governance. He explained that these power struggles often cause administrative work to stall for weeks or months, ultimately preventing elected officials from meeting public service expectations.

Addressing similar concerns regarding the Niuland Town Council, Ayemi stated he lacked full details on the matter and deferred to Minister Jacob Zhimomi for comment. He emphasized that the government is committed to preventing future disruptions to municipal operations. He concluded by asserting that any leadership group must be allowed the stability needed to serve the public effectively after the recent long absence of municipal governance.
