Agartala: Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma has formally requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene in the growing crisis of illegal immigration within Tripura. In his letter, Debbarma warned that undocumented migration poses a critical threat to national security and sovereignty, urging the central government to identify, detain, and deport those entering through the state border.

Debbarma alleged that poor administration and collusion by some officials and political figures have allowed illegal entry into the state. He claimed these migrants often move to other regions, creating civil disturbances and, in some instances, participating in terror activities. According to the MLA, this infiltration is destabilizing the region by altering local demographics, increasing unemployment, and fueling cross-border crimes.

To address these concerns, the legislator has pushed for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in Tripura. He expressed disappointment that local government machinery has failed to tackle the sensitive issue despite his previous appeals. While he praised the central government for forming a high-powered committee on infiltration, he stated that further action is needed to secure the state borders effectively.

The MLA has requested a meeting with Amit Shah during the Home Minister's upcoming visit to Agartala on June 5. He intends to present documents supporting the adoption of the National Register of Citizens, the Inner Line Permit, and the Citizenship Amendment Act to better regulate the region. Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Tripura as part of a broader tour of border states aimed at reviewing national security arrangements.
