Agartala: Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take decisive action against illegal migration in Tripura. In a letter dated May 29, Debbarma requested that the government detect, detain, and deport illegal migrants, labeling the situation a significant threat to national security and sovereignty.

To address these concerns, the MLA urged the central government to fast-track the implementation of the National Register of Citizens, the Inner Line Permit, and the Citizenship Amendment Act. Debbarma argued that weak administration and corruption among officials have allowed infiltration to persist for years. He alleged that many individuals have obtained official identity documents like Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and passports through fraudulent means.

The letter warned that illegal migration is damaging Tripura through increased trans-border crime and economic strain while altering the state's demographic structure. Debbarma expressed frustration over the lack of response from local officials, citing his previous attempts to raise the issue with the state government, the police, and border security authorities. He welcomed the formation of a high-power committee to examine the problem, calling it a vital step toward restoring local order and security.
