Guwahati: Three prisoners bolted from the captive ward of Shaheed Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in Assam's Golaghat district early on July 26. The men capitalized on a massive security lapse. Najibur Rahman, Rupam Kalita, and Ajay Gowala slipped out around 5 am. They made a clean break on a motorcycle owned by the officers assigned to guard them.
The breakout has triggered an urgent manhunt. Police have set up checkpoints across the district and are conducting raids at multiple locations. Neighboring districts remain on high alert. Authorities confirmed that Nazibur Rahman is the prime accused in the Golaghat triple murder case.
The fallout was swift. Investigators arrested police officer Birendra Nath Bora along with home guards Diku Saikia and Krishnakanta Das. Officials determined these three men were on duty during the escape. Police also arrested Hizbur Rahman, the brother of Nazibur Rahman. Investigators are currently examining his role in the security breach.
Internal inquiries show the guards were inattentive when the prisoners vanished. The lapse remains under investigation. A senior official stated that "a police personnel on duty reportedly fell asleep" during the shift. Search operations continue as police attempt to track down the three fugitives.
