Guwahati: Assam police have detained three minors following the gangrape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in the Barpeta district. The incident took place on Monday in the Baghbar area as the child was walking home early from school because she felt unwell.
Barpeta Additional Superintendent of Police Sameeran Baishya stated that the suspects intercepted the girl on her path, dragged her into a nearby jute field, and sexually assaulted her. The attackers then strangled the child and left her body at the location. The victim's family alerted local authorities after she failed to return home that evening. Police launched an immediate search operation, discovering the girl's body in the field later that night. Following a preliminary investigation, officers took three boys into custody.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active. As Barpeta Additional Superintendent of Police Sameeran Baishya noted, "additional details will be shared as the case progresses."
