Imphal: A joint task force of Manipur Police and central security units swept through the state Monday, netting four suspects in a targeted anti-drug drive. The operation hauled in contraband valued at roughly Rs 50 lakh, along with a firearm, a car, and significant cash.
Police nabbed Md. Firoz Alam, 34, of Thoubal Moijing Leingoijil first. Officers found 530.66 grams of brown sugar, one 12-bore pump-action gun, eight empty shells, a cartridge belt, and Rs 1,81,280 in cash on him. He is currently in custody.
At the T. Khullen Naka check post in Senapati district, officers stopped a Swift Dzire, registration AS 06K1306. They arrested the driver, 50-year-old Arun Dutta of Dibrugarh, Assam, after discovering eight soap cases packed with 80 grams of suspected brown sugar.
Security forces moved on a home in T. Khuangkhai village, Sangaikot subdivision, Churachandpur district. They arrested Seikhogin Mate, 43, and recovered 13.230 kg of opium. The authorities stated, "Efforts are underway to trace the main accused and another supplier linked to the case."
Finally, police apprehended Jeevan Basnet, 38, of Charhajare, Motbung, in Kangpokpi district. This arrest stems from an ongoing investigation into a previous FIR involving a 49.5 kg opium seizure.
