Manipur Youth Assembly Demands Political Unity and Better Governance

Imphal: The Manipur Youth Assembly 2026 wrapped up on Sunday after pushing a seven-point resolution titled Manipur First. Held at the Senate Hall of the Department of Earth Sciences at Manipur University in Canchipur, the event drew students, researchers, and civil society members. Manipur Miyamgi Eehou organized the gathering under leader Khaidem Mani to address the state's deep social and economic fractures.

MAMEE convenor Oinam Premdash told the crowd that youth must stop being indifferent to the state's future. He warned that current crises demand a unified front. "The state's multiple crises require a united regional approach rather than fragmented efforts," Premdash said. The assembly called on the Manipur People’s Party, Naga People’s Front, Democratic People’s Front, and the People’s Democratic Alliance to unite under one regional platform. They believe this shift offers a better alternative to national political parties.

Joblessness remains a massive headache. Delegates blasted the state for slow and murky hiring practices, demanding a clean overhaul of government recruitment. They also targeted the ongoing conflict. The assembly insisted the government drop a concrete plan for internally displaced persons before the next election cycle begins. Resettlement is long overdue. Furthermore, participants demanded the state and central governments clear the national highways of persistent disruptions that have plagued transit since May 3, 2023. They want safe passage for all civilians. The assembly finished with a plea for the government to mend ethnic divisions and secure lasting peace.
