Students Stage Statewide Protests Over Delayed Kohima Girls Hostel Project

Kohima: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) and its affiliated units observed a statewide Black Friday protest on Thursday. This demonstration marks the first phase of an agitation against the state government regarding the stalled construction of a 100-bedded girls' hostel at Kohima Science College Autonomous in Jotsoma.

Students launched the movement after the expiration of a formal ultimatum issued to the government. The union noted that repeated appeals and representations regarding the project have been ignored, resulting in no visible progress on the site. Leaders stated that the ongoing delay directly threatens the safety, welfare, and academic goals of female students.

In a press statement, ANCSU President Kivika Yeptho and Assistant General Secretary Imnawabang T Lkr labeled the government's lack of action as “deeply disappointing and unacceptable.” The union officials thanked their members for their “unwavering solidarity” during the protest, which they claim demonstrates the collective frustration felt by the student community.

The union maintains that its demand for the hostel's completion is non-negotiable. They have urged the state government and the relevant department to take immediate and concrete measures to finish the project. Looking ahead, the ANCSU warned that it plans to launch a massive statewide protest rally if authorities fail to address the issue, placing the responsibility for any future escalation entirely on the government.
