Shillong Turns City Centre into Musical Hub with New Cultural Corridor

Shillong: Shillong transformed its bustling commercial hub into a live music venue this Saturday as local bands performed at the city's newly established cultural corridor, Lynti Sur Bathiang. Located in Police Bazar at Khyndai Lad, the open-air event drew large crowds of locals and tourists who gathered to hear a mix of classic rock anthems and contemporary hits.

The state government created Lynti Sur Bathiang, which translates to A Path of Beautiful Melodies, to shift the area away from the congestion of street vendors and highlight the acoustic heritage of the Khasi Hills. The performance forced the usual rush of shoppers to pause, drawing pedestrians into a multi-generational circle around the stage.

The bands showcased significant musical precision, reinforcing Shillong's status as the rock capital of India. A Shillong Jottings member attending with his family noted the venue's evolution, saying, A Shillong Jottings member, enjoying an evening out with his family, noted how seamlessly the venue has evolved into a family-friendly destination.

Tourists joined locals in the crowd, capturing the performance on their phones and singing along to both English covers and Khasi songs. The event successfully combined the crisp mountain air with live instrumentation to create an atmosphere that attendees noted could not be replicated by any indoor venue.
