Shillong: Shillong Lajong FC moved to the top of the Shillong Premier League standings on September 1. They beat Meghalaya Police 2-0 at the SSA Stadium in Shillong. The win keeps Lajong unbeaten and marks the first loss this season for the police squad.
Lajong controlled the pace early. Freddy Jyrwa and Lalmuansanga tested the defense within ten minutes. Galbraith Laitmon sent a free-kick just over the bar, while goalkeeper Eveningstar Bareh saved a shot from Lalmuansanga with his boot. The pressure broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. Ricky Kharkongor slammed home a volley off a cross from Lalmuansanga to open the scoring. Kharkongor suffered an injury on the play and exited at the break.
Meghalaya Police struggled to find an opening. Aldrin Ramsiej missed their best chance of the half. Bikram Chettri fired a free-kick over the bar shortly after the restart. Lajong exploited a defensive error in the 54th minute. A bad back pass gifted possession to Lalmuansanga, who dribbled past Bareh and tapped the ball into the net.
Lalmuansanga nearly added a third goal later. Eveningstar Bareh dove to his right to block a penalty kick after Bikram fouled a player inside the box. Fridison Wanniang hit the crossbar with a late effort. Pynshailang L Lyngkhoi pushed a header over the bar on a free-kick from Rapborlang Marwein, marking the final real threat for the police. "Lajong remain the only team yet to concede a goal in the 2026 Shillong Premier League," according to match records.
Lajong sits on 10 points. Meghalaya Police dropped to fourth place with seven points. The league continues September 2 with Laitkor playing Langsning at 1pm and Nongkseh facing Mawlai at 5pm.
