Imphal: Security forces hauled in a massive cache of weapons on Saturday morning in Manipur's Kangpokpi district. A joint team consisting of Kangpokpi District Police and the 19 Assam Rifles moved in at 5 am. They acted on specific intelligence regarding concealed weapons in the area. The operation wrapped up by 8:45 am with zero arrests and no violence.
The search occurred near Zero Point, located 3.4 km north of the Kotlen Company Operating Base along a hill road. Officers pulled a variety of hardware from the site. This included one .22 rifle with a magazine, 11 single-barrel bolt-action rifles, and four single-barrel pull-mechanism rifles. They also grabbed three 9 mm pistols of Italian, US, and German manufacture, alongside one Japanese-made .22 pistol. Five improvised mortars completed the haul.
The team found plenty of other gear. They recovered 100 rounds of .22 live ammunition, seven single-barrel live rounds, five fired Lathod cases, and 200 fired AK-47 cartridge cases. The inventory list grew to include three metres of cortex wire, four Motorola batteries, one PEK, and three mobile phones. Officials stated that the operation was part of efforts aimed at locating illegally held arms and maintaining law and order in the region.
Investigations into the stash continue. The security forces currently maintain that the recovery serves as a measure for "maintaining law and order in the region."
