Kohima: Rescue teams called off the search for two missing victims on July 24. A landslide hit Defence Colony in Mon on July 19, killing eight people in total. Workers spent six consecutive days digging through debris. They never found two of the bodies. The operation stopped officially on Friday evening.
A mass funeral took place on July 25 at Thamnan Ward in Mon town. Local leaders and family members gathered to pay their final respects. Advisor Wangpang Konyak, Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak, and Superintendent of Police Kanchan Kumar Kandpal attended the service. The district administration expressed gratitude for the community response. Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak praised the rescuers and acknowledged the "tireless efforts made to retrieve the missing bodies."
Financial and moral support came from nine elected members of Mon district and Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak. Government officials and volunteers worked alongside groups like the Konyak Union, Konyak Students’ Union, and Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong. Representatives from these organizations, along with ward members, villagers, and family of the victims, delivered speeches during the service to honor the dead.
