Religious Leaders Train in Conflict Resolution Techniques

Kohima: Lead Academy teamed up with the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research and Peace Channel on July 18, 2026. The groups hosted a national training session in Dimapur titled Religious Leaders as Peace Builders and Facilitators of Dialogue. Forty-five priests and religious figures from across India attended. They learned how to better promote reconciliation and peace.

Fr. V. M. Thomas opened the event. He praised the local organizers for their commitment to conflict transformation. He noted that religious workers have a duty beyond preaching. He said, "Priests and religious are called not only to preach the Gospel but also to act as peace builders and facilitators of dialogue, particularly in conflict affected regions such as North East India."

Fr. Dr. C. P. Anto led the sessions. He serves as the principal of NEISSR and director of Peace Channel. He taught that peace requires justice and mutual respect. Dialogue prevents violence and builds trust. The curriculum included active listening, empathy, non-violent communication, and mediation. Participants practiced these skills through role plays and group discussions.

Fr. Anto told the group that religious leaders must bridge gaps in a divided world. They need to heal communities. The attendees finished the program with a vow to use these methods in their daily ministries. They plan to spread this work throughout parishes and institutions across the country.
