Guwahati: The Rabha community gathered in Bamunigaon, located in Assam's Kamrup district, to celebrate the annual Baikho Puja. This vibrant festival serves as a cornerstone for the community, reinforcing their commitment to indigenous traditions and cultural identity.
Observed during the Assamese month of Jeth, the festival focuses on prayers for agricultural success, community development, and personal well-being. Organizers included the Rabha Students’ Union, the Rabha Women’s Council, and the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee. Similar celebrations took place throughout the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council region.
Festival committee president Phuleswar Rabha noted that the event remains a vital institution for sustaining Rabha values. The day included traditional rituals performed by Baibra priests and a series of cultural performances. Attendees watched traditional dances such as Lewatna, Killabhanga, and Baranakakai. The Juit Nasa, also known as the fire dance, served as a major highlight for the audience.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including RHAC General Member Ajit Rabha, Ananda Rabha, Ankur Rabha, and Bichitra Rabha. The annual celebration continues to act as a symbol of unity and faith, ensuring that the community's heritage is passed down to future generations.
