Gangtok: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang marked Teachers' Day on Saturday, September 5, with formal tributes to educators. They praised the teaching profession for driving social development and molding the next generation.
Governor Mathur noted that instructors do far more than teach academics. He said the role of teachers extends beyond imparting academic knowledge, as they also help inculcate moral values among young people and prepare them to become responsible citizens and future leaders. He also congratulated winners of national and state-level awards, citing their integrity and hard work.
Chief Minister Tamang offered his own thanks to teachers globally, with a specific focus on those working within Sikkim. He credited their patience and guidance for empowering students to chase their ambitions. The CM honored the legacy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former Indian President and scholar whose birth anniversary serves as the foundation for the holiday. Tamang urged the public to recognize the lasting influence teachers hold over every student they lead.
