Shillong: A 26-year-old Pune businessman is dead. Ketan Agarwal died after his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her lover, Chetan Babulal Chaudhary, pushed him into a 400-foot gorge at Lohagad Fort. Police arrested the pair on Tuesday.
Ketan led a real estate firm and had big plans. He and Siya were set to marry in November at a Rajasthan palace. The wedding budget hit 17 crore rupees. They even booked private planes for the guests.
The pair arrived at the fort on June 18 for a birthday trek. Siya initially told police that Ketan slipped in the wind while taking photos. Rescuers pulled his body from the gorge after three hours of work. Police filed an initial report for accidental death.
Suspicion grew quickly. Pune Rural SP Sandip Singh Gill noted that evidence pointed to a calculated plot. Investigations revealed Siya and Chaudhary conspired to eliminate Ketan because he stood in the way of their romance. Pune Rural SP Sandip Singh Gill said, "The duo allegedly conspired to kill him - Siya lured Ketan to the fort, Chaudhary joined them, and they pushed him off, staging it as an accident."
The killing resembles a 2025 case in Sohra. In that instance, a woman and her lover hired assassins to kill a groom during his honeymoon. While the motives match, the methods differ. The Pune suspects acted alone, while the Sohra murder involved hired killers.
